Who we are...

WordsmithsCT is a collective of South African writers who come together to share our stories, reclaim our narratives, and amplify voices that have been historically marginalized.

Where It Started

In the beginning, I often found myself in spaces where I was the only with brown skin or the only one wearing a scarf.

The longing for a group where we could talk about the inner conflict that held me back from writing became overwhelming and I decided to ask if anyone felt like I did.

A Shared Struggle

When I asked if anyone else felt the same, the answers came quickly. Yes. Me too.

When I asked if anyone else felt the same, the answers came quickly. Yes. Me too.

When I asked if anyone else felt the same, the answers came quickly. Yes. Me too.

When I asked if anyone else felt the same, the answers came quickly. Yes. Me too.

We all carried doubts about whether our stories mattered, and we all knew what it felt like to be overlooked.

Our Beginning Together

That shared “yes” was the beginning of the Wordsmiths Guild.

A space born from solidarity, built on courage, and carried forward by the voices of every writer who joins.

What we do

Our Mission

To create a space where our experiences those often erased, overlooked, or appropriated—are celebrated and told in their own voice.

Our Work

Through our work, we express the everyday magic of our lives and the protests that live within our words.
